Have you ever been to a place that made you want to move and live there?
I have. Twice. The first one was in Pasadena, California. The second time was Asheville, North Carolina.
Pasadena was more like “I left my heart in Pasadena” kinda thing. I’ve only been there twice and after that initial withdrawal stage, I quickly moved on to the next destination.
Asheville, on the other hand, we’ve been to five times. Each time we visit, I always get that same “homey” feeling like I belong there and every time we go home, I always have a heavy heart. Staring out the window as my husband drives, feeling more and more melancholic as the trees and mountains speed past me.
My obsession went as far as talking to people and asking how it is like living there. One of them was a friendly couple we met while dining. Turned out the guy is in the real estate business and his calling card already tacked to my cork board for future reference. Surprisingly, most people we talked to aren’t even originally from Asheville!
But I’m not here to ask you to help me/us decide if we should move or not. I’m here because I want to share with you, Asheville, as I see it through my eyes.
ART. IS. EVERYWHERE. From shops to entire walls to small spaces. Nothing is missed. Beauty is abundantly expressed in this place. And my world is colorful here.
Every house or structure or art installation is well thought of, carefully planned to let the beauty flow without hindrance. Even the mundane looks pleasing to the eye.
A beautiful city has to have good food too. Though I do not have food photos as I am not a food blogger, I have taken a few shots of some food establishments that have caught my eye either because we stopped to eat or they just looked interesting. Don’t even get me started on the abundance of local breweries here.
People are friendly here, the vibe is bohemian, expressing one’s self through art or food or music or the outdoors is openly accepted and encouraged. With the Smoky Mountains as their backyard, it is nothing but fresh and green all around.
Peace and Love!
