Quote Challenge Day Three: Travel

“We travel,

some of us forever,

to seek other states,

other lives,

other souls.”

~ Anaïs Nin ~

Here it is, my final post of the 3 Day Quote Challenge. A big thank you to Estelea for thinking about me! That wasn’t too hard, eh?

Well, actually, the hard part for me was looking for bloggers who would possibly participate in such things. Most of them have a “no-award policy” in their blogs and that makes for slim pickings. But no worries. It is what it is.

The rules are simple. Publish 3 quotes that inspire you over the next 3 days and nominate 3 of your fellow amazing bloggers. Or you can skip the last part which I am doing this time around.

*Now we are back to your regular programming!*

Quote Challenge Day Two: Adventure

paulo Coelho

And this is why I travel my wandering gypsy heart… “I don’t do lethal!”

Special mention goes to three adventurous bloggers, who may or may not join in this little tag-a-long inspirational game but regardless, here you are:

de Wets Wild

Small Town Girls, Midnight Trains

Janaline’s World Journey

The rules are to post 3 quotes in the next 3 days and nominate 3 bloggers each time to carry on with the challenge.

Quote Challenge Day One: Fear

I am deeply honored (and quite flabbergasted) to have been nominated by this sassy très chic mummy of Estelea’s Blog for this three day quote challenge.

The rules are to post 3 quotes over 3 days and nominate 3 bloggers each time to carry on with the challenge.

And the nominees are (you don’t have to participate really, I just wanted to mention you that’s all):

Lost in the Bermuda Triangle

From Hiding to Blogging

The Girl in Glasses

That is me, yes, yours truly, rappelling down a waterfall in the Philippines. That was one of our many unforgettable adventures and I am so glad I did it! Fear did not win that day.

The Blog Tour Award

This award nomination was bestowed upon me by the lovely, très chic Adele of “The Girl in Glasses” who brings wearing spectacles to another level of sassy. Thanks for this recognition! You should go check out her blog for beauty and fashion tips and some light hearted inspiration.

After “graduating” in WordPress online blogging class a few months ago, I thought I was over this award thing. But to be recognized still by my blogging peers for doing something that I am passionate about is beyond fabulous! I am no award snob first of all, let me be clear about that. This blog is open and willing to receive as many awards and/or nominations as the blogosphere can possibly have. Of course, I can chose to politely decline the award if it does not fit the over all theme of my blog.

Now, what is The Blog Tour Award? I have no freaking idea! I researched and googled to no success. It only led me to blog posts that had this same award. But based on the questions posed (as you know awards involve a Q & A portion), it somehow involves creativity and inspiration.

Caveat: I won’t pass this on to others. Sorry, I will have to break the chain because I don’t want to put pressure on anyone but if YOU, yes, anyone of you out there, wish to participate in spreading the goodwill, then by all means, be my guest.

For those interested, here are the rules:

  • Pass the tour on to at least four other bloggers.
  • Give your nominees the rules and specify the Monday in which they should post their nomination answers.
  • Answer the four questions about your creative processes, which allows other bloggers and visitors to understand what inspires you to do what you do.
  • Compose this one-time post on a specific Monday (date TBC by your nominator).

The Four Questions:

1. How does your work differ from others in your genre?

~ I tend not to compare myself to others although I love to peruse and/or browse through a wide variety of blogs just to get some inspiration. My blog is only more than a year old and so far, I am happy with its growth. That Traveling Nurse was and still is an outlet for my creative introverted soul and the other bloggers I happen to meet along the way are my co-travelers in this creative process.

2. How does your writing/creative process work?

~ It all boils down to my mood at the moment. There are times when I am just overflowing with inspiration, words are popping up in my mind and sentences become visual realities. These mostly happen when I am traveling, either before it actually happens during the planning stage or after we get back home and I am full of interesting stories. I take tons of photos when I travel so this helps me a lot too in coming up with an idea. The pictures bring me back to the place and time and evokes many happy (or not) memories giving me the inspiration to write. AND then there are times when I am as dry as the Sahara desert, writer’s block multiplied many times over. No matter how much I try to force myself to write, nothing substantial or even remotely inspiring comes out.

3. Why do you write or create what you do?

~ I do this for me. Not for my family or friends. I have Facebook for that.

FeelGoodFriday93

4. What are you working on at the moment?

~ Aside from my weekly Haiku Fridays, for the last part of my Dominican Republic series, I am planning to do a photo essay. As I’ve said, I am also a shutterbug and there are a couple of images I would like to share on my blog.

As far as my real life goes, That Traveling Nurse will once again jump into the Travel Nurse bandwagon, this time, with my hubby. This whole month will be filled with appointments, documents, follow ups, emails, phone calls and deadlines. I’m afraid I might not have time for my blog. How I wish I can fast forward to next month when all this frenzied planning is over.

There. My part is done. Who wants to share this award?

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

I am just amazed at my newly found WordPress blogging community. Not only can you find creative, unique and beautiful people here but everyone is just so supportive, appreciative and helpful! I’m sure everyone has their own busy lives offline, families to take care of, exams to take, projects to make, errands to run, patients to save but somehow we all manage to make our online lives a little better by being positive in our own little ways.

For that I am honored to be nominated by Jane Arney of Infinite Windows for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. Yaaay!!! Her blog has quite a unique take on religion and art, you should go check her out.

SisterhoodIcon

By now I have learned that some people do not do awards (as there are no hard and fast rules or criteria for the nominations and it seems “chain-lettery” except that it does not include the threat of death if you do not pass it on to ten people, etc, etc…). So, to me, as tedious as it may be, to accept such is an honor to be recognized amongst your fellow bloggers. It is kinda like a virtual pat on the back. I also do not blame others for not following through on their award nominations. To each his own.

I did try to research some more on its origins but nothing substantial came out, unlike the other awards. I guess it is to strengthen women bloggers all over the world by empowering and encouraging them to continue to let their voices be heard.

Without further ado, here are the rules:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their site
2. Put the award logo on your blog
3. Answer the ten questions sent to you
4. Make a list of ten questions for your nominees
5. Nominate seven blogs. (I won’t be doing seven this time.)

1. When was a time in your life when you really took a chance?
~ Last year, I took a huge chance in loving and forgiving someone. Let’s just leave it at that.

2. What are your goals for your blog this year?
~ I don’t really set any goals. I just blog whenever I can, whenever the mood strikes me. I have learned a lot over the past months on my own through self discovery and of course, through Blogging 101 class and I will continue to learn and grow as a blogger. I am proud to say that my blog will be turning a year old next month!

3. If you could go back in time, which era and place would you prefer, and why?
~ the 80s. I was in high school, great friends, good times, “tidal wave” aqua net sprayed hairstyles, new wave music, no obligations (except to pass high school), just pure fun!

4. Where do you most want to travel that you haven’t yet visited and why?
~ That would be hard to answer. I have a lot in my list but off the top of my head: Europe (art and culture), Peru (Machu Picchu), Turkey (Pamukkale and Cappadocia), Greece (the ruins). And sooo many more!

5. If money was no object, what work would you want to do?
~ Traveler and photographer. That obvious. 🙂

6. What is your favorite childhood memory?
~ When my dad would tell me and my brother stories about his youthful “adventures” in his hometown and we would lay beside him mesmerized and captivated

7. Which superpower would you most like to have?
~ To fly. So I can travel and see the world for free

8. What was the last book you read?
~ Promise Me by Richard Paul Evans

9. What is your favorite quote (just one!)?
~ Find a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life!

10. What is your favorite charity or cause, and why?
~ Habitat for Humanity. I worked with this organization for three years and I believe that everyone has the right to decent housing. Having a home of your own, no matter how simple and basic, can empower lives and uplift morales.

I hereby nominate my fellow female bloggers to the Sisterhood (I apologize if you have been nominated in the past for the same award). You are all amazing!!!

May 13th * The Great Escape * It’s Dolly, Darling * A Worldly Addiction

Here are your questions (I will make it super easy! You MAY answer why):

1. Coffee or tea?
2. Blonde or brunette?
3. Pink or blue?
4. Roses or sunflowers?
5. Sunrise or sunset?
6. Books or music?
7. Emails or postcards?
8. Modern or rustic?
9. Romantic or practical?
10. World peace or personal bliss?

Isn’t It Lovely: Understanding Blog Awards

Because of that Liebster post yesterday, here’s more reading about blogging awards to help you understand it fully. Reblogging from The Daily Post.

The Daily Post

As you explore the blogging community, you’ve probably seen bloggers whose sidebars are filled with awards. Maybe you’ve even gotten one of these yourself:

award collage

There are dozens of awards circulating in the blogosphere. Where do they come from? How do you get one? What’s the point? Today, we demystify the world of blog awards with our award FAQ.

Who creates these awards?

There are vote-based programs like the Bloggies, but most of the awards that you get directly from other bloggers, like the “Sunshine Award” or “Versatile Blogger Award,” are created, maintained, and handed out by bloggers. That is, bloggers began them as a way to recognize other bloggers, and the community perpetuates them by continuing to hand them out.

Unlike the automated notifications and trophies you may sometimes receive when you see a spike in traffic or get a certain number of likes, these awards don’t come from WordPress.com —…
